JFW a/w '09

Tokyo has just finished their week of runway shows, documenting the '09 a/w collections. Surprisingly, there was a nihilistic and very rebellious tone to most of the shows. The same avant garde approach to design is still present, and has become a dependable motif amongst Japanese designers.
Unfortunately for JFW, most large Japanese designers show their collections in Paris. This greatly reduces the publics' enthusiasm/awareness of Japanese Fashion Week. Which is too bad considering all of the young talent and creativity on the runways. Included are several looks from designers that we felt were most expressive of the mood, and approach to Japanese fashion.

Accommodation

Architect Michael Rantilla of The Freelon Group designed this home for himself in the woods of South Carolina. In doing so, he faced challenges in regards to the unevenness of the land he planned to build on. So rather than digging up the earth, he was able to build upwards with three stories of concrete, glass, steel, aluminum, zinc, ipe, maple and bamboo. There was also a small creek in
I love the natural lighting and the defiance of conventional lines and proportion. Michael also assumed the role of general contractor and was able to complete the project in only 11 months.

Pete's back. Grace/Waistland

After just about every media outlet and critic had written off Pete Doherty, he came back and dropped his first ever solo album on us. I can't express my happiness enough in that he was able to shake his bad habits and come back into the music. Or atleast get things under control and manageable to a point where it wont affect his music. The man is fucking brilliant and now that he's straightening things out a bit, I'm sure everyone will be singing a different tune. In addition to his CD debut- he was awarded the best solo artist award at the NME Shockwave back on Feb. 25

Don't expect a US tour anytime soon. Pete's still not allowed in the country. He is however doing a nation tour of England right now so if you're lucky enough to cross the pond in the next month, check him out.
