Contemporist

Brazilian artist (now residing in Sao Paulo) Henrique Oliveira will be showing his first solo exhibition at the Rice Gallery in Houston, Texas statring at the end of this month. What you're looking at is salvage wood that has been manipulated and shaped to give the effect of looking like an oil painting. Notice the swirls of the brush strokes and the sweeping wave like motion of the wood. All the wood was hand painted and stained to achieve these looks.

Here are a few more of his installs for the gallery, with a much different feel. These pieces seem to be swelling and boiling to the point they're going to explode with lord knows what as it's content. What ever you do, keep your hands to yourself.

  1. This is incredible creative. I've always thought of ideas of recycling wasted materials and making it into arts projects.
The other day I threw out all these little cardboard slips at starbucks. There was atleast 300 of them.
